This month we are showcasing some of our awesome debands from the past, while we share some tips. Our first tip was to make all your appointments. A second important thing patients can do to stay on pace with their anticipated deband day is WATCH WHAT YOU EAT! Here are a few tips to remember when eating and drinking with braces:
- Avoid foods that can break your wires or brackets: chewy foods like bagels, hard rolls, licorice; crunchy foods like popcorn or hard chips; sticky foods like caramels and gum; hard foods like nuts, hard pretzels; foods you have to bite into like corn on the cob, apples, and carrots.
- Take the time to chop up hard foods like apples, raw vegetables, crunchy bread, or meat. When eating, take small bites of your food and chew slowly and carefully.
- It’s also important not to chew or bite down on anything that isn’t food while wearing braces, such as chewing on pencils or pens, and biting your nails, as it can damage your wires.
- Stay away from carbonated drinks and sodas. These types of drinks can damage the health of your teeth and prevent them from moving properly while wearing braces.
